The best soothing words to have been made: Mile sur mera tumhara.....to sur bane humara.....

Mile sur mera tumharaa,
Tho sur bane hamaraa....
sur kee nadhiyaan
har disha se behkee saagar mein milee.
Baadalon ka roop leiker
bharse halke halke...
Mile sur mera tumharaa.. tho... sur bane
hamaara.. Mile sur mera tumhara...

Chaain taraj tahin nyay taraj
ek but baniye saayen taraj
Tera sur mile mere sur de naal
milke bane ek nava surtaal
Mile sur mera tumharaa....tho sur bane hamaara..
Mohnja sur tohi desa pyara mile jadein geet ashaanjo madhur tarano
bane tadein
Sur ka dariya bahte saagar me mile badlaan da roop leike barasan
holle haule

Isaindhal namm iruvarin suramum namadhakum.. Dhisai veru aanalum
aazi ser aarugal Mugilai mazaiyai pozivadu pol isai ...Namm
isssaiiii.... Thik thakida thathikakidA....thaka thimi thaka junu

Nanna dhwanige ninna dhwani-ya, seridante namma dhwaniya..
Naa swaramu nee swaramu sangammamai, mana swaram ga avatarinchey

Ninde swaramum ningalude swaramum otthucheiyum Namudeya swaramai....

Tomaar shoor moder shoor srishti koroor koi ekshoor[2]...
Sriishti karoon woi katha

Toma mora swarer milan srishti kare chalbochatano

male sur jo taro maro, bane aapno sur niralo

majhya tumchya julta tara madhur suranchya barasti dhara

Sur ki nadiya har disha se behke saagar mein mile...
Baadlo ka roop leke barse halke halke..
Oh...Mile sur mera tumhara tho....sur bane hamara...

Mile Sur mera tumhara
tho sur bane hamara tho sur bane hamara
tho sur bane hamara

Whenever I listen to this song, I drown in the reminiscence of the yester years. Each time the music touches my ears, I get dragged into my nostalgic childhood. In those days, I used to rush to the TV to see and hear this lovely documented music commercial then. The video depicts the diversity of our country in the most lucid but impeccable way.

Especially in this song, where every naunce of our diversities is covered, the ending has the children covered in saffron, white and green running gracefully to depict the tricolors of our Indian flag. The scene is simply superb. After so many years, when I saw this video on DD today, for some reason my eyes became wet. Tears withstood somehow impeding themselves from trickling down. I knew the feeling: The Pride. Pride of having been born an Indian. Whatever language, whatever culture, the words above soothe the ears…..feels like heaven each time I hear it.....

The song was again remade in 2010 as Phir mile sur mera tumhara with all and the only Bollywood clout but it did not impress much. Nothing beats the simplicity and the honesty of the old commercial. It ignites the delight of being an Indian.

Jai Hind!!

Way to go, Kalki!

When they were hated, despised and feared,
When they were treated with disdain and disrespect,
When they were so condescendingly treated as untouchables,
Nature willed few people to refute the world about what man had said and made!

Months before, I came across an article about an NGO - Sahodari foundation in the Hindu. I was just about to dismiss it like any other article about some NGOs, until the picture of its founder caught my eye. As I further read through the article, I understood why it had stood out to me and why was I compelled to read more. It takes a heart to beat the struggles in life, and it takes a greater courage to become a founder of an NGO, one media specialist, an entrepreneur and a script writer especially when the person, the founder is a transgender. Meet – Ms Kalki Subramaniam, a Masters in Journalism and Mass Communications. Period.

The third gender is always a sidelined community no matter which place they belong to. In India, this colorful community is seen at most, begging and bullying in trains for a meager amount of currency. In the northern parts, they are said to bring in good will and luck wherever a child is born. They dance, bless the baby and move on after being paid handsomely. Whereas in other parts, they are also found in the infamous places best known for iniquitous activities. But there is a lingering question- Why? Why discrimination against them? Even if it is acknowledged, it just never goes answered. Not that there is no answer to it, but because the transgenders are treated more with contempt than with esteem. They are feared more than respected (at least as human beings). They are untouchables of our society who are always kept at bay for their not so normal behavior. And then there are people like Ms Kalki Subramaniam who controverts all the above said matter. Being a transgender she has actually proved – Nothing is impossible for anyone who is passionate about accomplishing the goals set in life. When there are a million transgenders who still suffer discrimination inspite of their recent entries in politics and education, this lady has mustered courage and has taken enough pains and gone far enough to secure her place of respect and laudable recognition in our prejudiced society. She has started the first entrepreneurship programme for the poor transgender women. Apart from these, her recent achievements include the making of a music troupe called Viduthalai Kalai Kuzhu for transgenders, matrimonial site for them and the most significant one being the declaration of unique identity cards for them (as is available for males and females), which is truly commendable.

People like Kalki force the society to rethink about the norms that rule our bias ridden society, in retrospect. She has just ignited the fire called change and I believe the change will be for good…..

Way to go, Kalki!

Cheers & God bless!!

The intertwined social networking sites….. are they worth the precious time of ours?

When I was still a school going girl, boarding my jeep with a truckload of books, yapping with my jeep mates and then with my classmates and then after school with my parents….., the world seemed much simpler and less sophisticated. Every section of the world seemed to be a world in itself. Those days telephone was the only distraction for youth. Ever since the arrival of social networking, things have definitely changed for good but I won’t say for better! Perhaps, a human being now interacts virtually more than ever, than otherwise. Sigh!

7 years back, when orkut rose to an undisputed popularity with a huge number of people flooding into social networking as if it were some lottery machine. I too was one of them, obviously like any teen; I was enjoying social networking as I got to know a lot of people, yes many of them were strangers of course! The cult of social networking kick started with orkut and Hi5 and caught pace with the recent ones like Facebook and Myspace and what not. Thankfully, I did not drown into the networking aspect, although am a 'little' addicted to it! However, I wonder, where we don’t have time to spend with the near and dear ones, these sites just continue to gobble up the left over time.....Sad, but true!

With emergence of facebook, networking has taken to a different level altogether. At least orkut had age limitation of 18 years, for facebook it is just 13 years. Mark Zuchenberg has definitely managed to bring the world closer and has even managed to shrink it so much that every tom, dick and harry knows what is happening in every other person's life as to whether the information carries relevance or not is altogether a different story. Facebook apart from the networking part, houses a hundred applications of games, social interviews, puzzles and what not. The game front amongst all is the most popular one which includes Farmville, fishville, mafia wars, Café world and many more. When I was working at a client site, I never could use even a Gmail for that matter as it was all blocked but now after quitting my job, I just realized how many people these gaming applications can seduce and render jobless. Even people working in office get addicted heavily to FB. And it is no news that games are like drugs. They suck you into their world and make you dwell in it. But all this makes me wonder, are these sites worth our precious time? Definitely worth pondering….. Period!
